Mission Week with Craig Marsh - 9th - 17th June

We are really looking forward to Craig Marsh's visit in just over 3 weeks' time!
Craig and his wife Jenni will be with us for 8 days, leading a variety of events including training and teaching on healing, outreach on the streets of Burgess Hill, church services and special evangelistic meetings to invite friends to.
Craig has a remarkable story to tell of how God healed him from stomach cancer 12 years ago, literally rescuing him from death's door. God has been using Craig in extraordinary ways ever since, seeing 1000s of people healed and 1000s come to know Jesus through his ministry. Craig is a very engaging speaker, loves to pray for people with any need for healing, and is a very down-to-earth good bloke! We loved having him with us for a weekend last year and are delighted that he is returning for a whole week.
Please put the dates in your diary and start inviting friends now!
Programme for the week:

Car needed

Nix Henderson’s parents are coming over from South Africa from the 25th May to be near Nix and the family, and they are planning to stay for a while. They have accommodation (at least to begin with), but need a car in order to be independent. If anyone has a car that you would be willing to lend them for some time, that would be a wonderful blessing, and help them to keep their costs down. Please could you email Caroline Kemp. Many thanks.

You are invited to come along but also, we would be grateful for volunteers who might help and be involved in the day in some way: i.e. welcome, serving food and drinks, helping with games, setting up and clearing away etc. We would also be grateful for anyone who could donate cakes, drinks or prizes.
If you can help in any way, please contact Jo Leighton, or Gail or Kevin at Torch.

'...Did not our hearts burn within us...' Luke 24:32

Over the next 2 more weeks at BURN we are holding a particular focus through teaching and ministry on the gift of healing. This will not be an objective and unbiased module(!), this is aimed to wholeheartedly encourage and release us in more confidence, anointing, power and enjoyment of such an integral part of the Christian life. We will do this within the normal context of worship and ministry at Burn, but why not take the opportunity to join us and treat this as a chance to develop further in this area?

Sunday 13th May: Opportunity for impartation: An evening with Carl Tuttle

Sunday 20th May: Catalysing the gift: ‘These signs shall follow those who believe…’ (Mark 16:17)

On each night there will be prayer ministry offered.

We look forward to seeing more of God’s Kingdom breaking in over the coming weeks!

All are welcome. For more info contact the BURN team: burn@thepointchurch.co.uk

James finishing as Curate

I am pleased to let you know that I have accepted a job as a Chaplain somewhere nearby in Sussex (to be made public once all the safe-guarding checks have been completed!) starting on 1st July.
In October 2010, the Lord gave Louise and I a long-term vision of building a church as a vehicle towards bringing sustained revival and societal transformation, and we have been waiting on the Lord's timing ever since... As I start my new job, we are simultaneously beginning to develop this vision - and are really thankful to God for His provision of my new post to enable this, whilst the Chaplaincy itself will offer a lot of creative potential and challenge alongside!

Practically, this means I am finishing as Curate on Sunday 17th June, but hoping to stay in the area for the next 12 months or so.
Louise and I want to thank everyone who has prayed for us and stood alongside during this last season of seeking God - it is so appreciated!
It has been an amazing privilege to serve at The Point over the past 4 years, and we pray much blessing on you all as we begin a new phase.
With love and peace, James

Easter Services Help required!

Easter is nearly upon us! And so we have a few extra services, and would love to have some extra helpers for these.
On Good Friday we are having an all-age service at St Pauls, at 10am, we need some people to help with welcome, set up and cafe. If you are around and able to help please drop Jules an email.
We also have the evening celebration with other Burgess Hill churches, at the Triangle at 6pm. If anyone can help with welcome at this service again please let Jules know.
Thanks.

Are you on a team yet?

Being on a team is a great way to be serving God within His church! Have you joined a team? There are lots of ways you can help out. Can you stack chairs? Are you an excellent baker? How about helping out with the kids team? Or you could welcome people in as they arrive at church.
We love to encourage people to join a team as it's a great way to really get into church life and really feel part of The Point family. Whether you are new to church or have been here a while, there is something you can do to join in!
Serving on a team usually means helping out just once a month within one aspect of church life. It might require you to be here a bit earlier than normal or stay a bit later but otherwise it won’t take up much extra time, and you will have fun and meet some great people doing it!
All our teams would love to welcome new members but we have some quite specific gaps at the moment, so if you are thinking about joining a team can we encourage you to think about the set up, kids, welcome or cafe teams initially.
For more info on what these roles involve get in touch with Jules Middleton.

Week 4 this Sunday!

This coming Sunday is the 4th in the month, and so we are running our '4th Sunday' plan for the second time!
It all kicks off at 10am with worship together in the Assembly Hall, before the kids head to Kidz Zone in the Sports Hall, Youth to Submerge upstairs as usual, and the adults make the most of the Encounter venue and the Infuse Cafe...

Do check out the flyer with all the timings and locations so you can arrive at The Point knowing what is going on.

For parents with very little ones:- please note there is no CRECHE (orange group). Parents of creche aged children can use the Drama Studio (next to the Encounter venue in the Assembly Hall), but it will not be staffed, so parents will need to stay with their children.

The Babyzone will be at the back of the Encounter venue.

All other kids should register at 10.20 in the sports hall - including red group.
At 12.00, parents should collect red group from their classroom - and all other children from the Sports Hall.

See you all on Sunday!

Please pray for her as she speaks on the theme ‘What happens if lightning strikes?’, reflecting on how we can know more of God through sudden tragedies or crises in our lives, and please also pray for all the women attending - especially those who do not yet know the Lord. (Sadly there are no places left, so it is not possible for anyone else to book in.)
We have counted over 18 different words of knowledge spoken over us whist there .... all by people who knew nothing of our situation. Amazingly, although holding a variety of different things, they all consistently talked of a hope and future ..... of breakthrough and future ministry.

We praise God for these overwhelming words of such great encouragement, but we are asking you as our church to continue to hold us in your daily prayers. Nix's body still seems very far from being healed and the scans, appointments and medical diagnoses continue. We are asking that you would join us in quite simply "agreeing with us in prayer that Nix would live and not die, that God's will would be done, on earth as it is in Heaven and that her body would be healed ...... as though sickness never happened".

We are so grateful to you the church army, we need your faith and declarations. All to the Glory of our very great and able God. Andy and Nix

Off the Fence, last week, was informed by their landlord that he is going to sell the building that the homeless day centre and night outreach team run from, and also our schools projects and clothing and food bank.
First off, we would so value your prayers, as this premises has become a focal point for much of the community down in Brighton. And we need prayer for wisdom - we have been offered first refusal - it is a major step of faith but we are going to attempt to raise the £300,000.
Please pray with us, as this is such a major step for us.
The new teaching series for Isaiah is underway!
We had a great evening looking at the background, history and key themes and 'Introduction to Isaiah'; audio and notes are now available to download.
This Sunday we have visiting preacher Peter Nyende (principal of Carlile Bible College, Nairobi) bringing us an African perspective on the issue of Justice from the book of Isaiah - should be fascinating and challenging.

He has said that the gift will enable his wife Mary to do a catering course and also set up a small business, to repair his computer which has crashed, and he is planning a youth camp for April so the funding will be great for helping with that.
New Year message from Will and Caroline

Happy New Year and Welcome to The Point (after what we trust was a great Christmas!)
We are back in action at St Paul's Catholic College from 10am this Sunday (and 7pm at The Park Centre for Burn our evening service). In the morning there will be a full children's and youth programme, and we are delighted to welcome our friends Matt and Beth Redman who will be joining us and leading worship (as well as attending their nephew, our very own Nathan Zaragoza's thanksgiving / dedication at the beginning of the service). The adults will be starting a new series on the prophet Isaiah, one of the most important books on the bible, and we are so excited to see the Lord fulfil His promise from Isaiah 61 verse 2, that this is 'the year of the Lord's favour'!

Let's come together as one family to give praise and thanks to our amazing heavenly Father and be transformed into the likeness of Jesus! See you on Sunday, Every blessing for a wonderful 2012, Will and Caroline Kemp.

Our family joined Sophie and James in Willow Way for 'Out there' Sunday and there was one moment in particular which really touched us.
We were able to tell a small boy of around 4 that the bike he had his hand on he was able to take home....the look on that child’s face defies words but it has inspired the 'BIG BICYCLE RECYCLE'.

We will be collecting second hand (and in good riding condition) bikes and scooters up until Christmas Day when we will distribute these previously loved treasures to disadvantaged children in our community.
'Out There' feedback

Well done everyone who contributed to the excellent 'Out There' Sunday on 4 Dec. People were serving, praying, running the Kidzone, welcoming newcomers and generally showing the love of God in practical ways all over Mid Sussex. Many lives were touched and it was so great to see our church community 'out there' with people who have no connection with the church, but in need of Jesus' love in so many ways.
My favourite story was of the lady on the Willow Way estate who was stressed about how she was going to pack everything up and move house all on her own when a team of Point volunteers turned up on her doorstep offering to help! The furniture give-away was a great success, and God revealed some amazing things as teams 'prayer walked' around the area - the feedback is still coming in.
Have a look at the video linked below to get a feel for a great day being the kind of church Jesus wants us to be, not keeping God to ourselves but 'Out There' in the community!
Giggle are putting on two Christmas shows at St Paul’s Catholic College - one for those with special needs, their families and friends at 7.30 pm on the evening of 10th December and a second one / Christmas tea for the elderly in our community, at 2.30 on the afternoon of 11th December. I really hope we may be able get between 150 - 250 people across the events, but I am desperately short of enough volunteers to do everything needed across the whole weekend. I was wondering whether anyone from The Point with a heart to love and serve these wonderful people might be able to get involved in some way to make this a very special and blessed weekend.

If anyone can help or know people who might like to come I would be overjoyed to hear from them and please contact me - Jo Leighton on either 07913887891 or email me at joanna.leighton@tiscali.co.uk

Neighbourly Care

This is my plea for help in our community; Neighbourly Care works across Burgess Hill and surrounding villages. This was supported by Hope 08.

We are a service to help residents in a crisis or who need ongoing support, visiting housebound, shopping transporting to appointments, light household repairs.

We are desperately in need of a secretary to take the minutes at our monthly meeting. We have a brilliant office administrator so the position is not too onerous. We are also short of volunteers in the Hurstpierpoint, Sayers Common area, where help is needed.

I am also looking for a man who will visit a father who is housebound with MS. His wife has had a breakdown with the strain of caring for him and their youngest son who is deaf. As his old friends no longer visit it would be good for him to have male friendships; he needs men to relate to.

I have some very caring volunteers from other churches, mostly in Burgess Hill. We are about being a good neighbour and it is ideal if support is close to home. It is never too demanding and volunteers only do what they can. In B/Hill I have one gentleman in his mid-fifties who has had 3 strokes. He has three visitors who do, in fact, all work full time - one in the city, one an air stewardess.

I am amazed at the kindness of people, who are not all Christians. If anyone at the Point would like to talk to me I can be contacted on 07930133542.

'Out There' Sunday // This Sunday - 4th December

We are going out into the local community to show the love of God through serving and praying.
The great day has finally arrived - just come along at 10am on Sunday morning at St Paul's Catholic College and join in!

We are gathering at 10.00 in the amphitheatre ready for commissioning prayer and worship, then we will get into our teams and off we go.

Don't worry if you have not signed up for a team yet, we will sort everything out on the day. There is something for everyone:
- Practical projects (furniture give away, etc) on Willow Way Estate;
- Prayer walk teams at Tesco, The Park Centre, Hurst College and Haywards Heath;
- Kids Zone and Welcome Cafe staying at St Paul's (we need people to stay and chat / help as well as people to go 'out there').

Do wear appropriate (out-door) clothing for the activity you are planning to do.

And PLEASE BRING TOYS, GAMES, DVDs etc (new or excellent condition) for families in need in Brighton and Hove. B&H City Mission have been asked by Social Services to provide Christmas presents for some of the poorest families who will not otherwise be able to give presents this Christmas. Please bring gifts (not wrapped) this coming Sunday or next week (11th Dec).

Parking & Entry: General Reminders

Just a quick reminder about parking and entrances. We would really like to encourage you all to park in the relevant places to enable those who need to, to park at the front of the building. And on top of this, as a health and safety measure we would really like people to use the front door only, the main entrance, to access the building. There have been a few issues recently with people coming into the building via the Oasis cafe doors and the rear entrances. We do need to avoid this as there are wires trailing and other hazards, especially in the cafe with boiling water.
So for clarification:
Front parking: Please leave all the spaces at the very front of the building free for those who are disabled, elderly or infirm.
Tennis Courts: If you are on a team and arriving early, please park on the tennis courts.
Side parking: those arriving for the service should first park in the side bays (adjacent to the sports hall/sixth form centre) - as you turn left at the entrance. Once these are full then we go to the rear of the building, turning right at the entrance and past the front of the building. Please be directed by the welcome team, thank you.
Doors: Aside from those setting up / arriving early, everyone should use the main front door only, to come into church. I know that this can be inconvenient as you have to walk round from the rear of the building but it is a matter of safety. If you need to, people can be dropped at the front of the school and then the driver can take the car round to the parking area. This also means the toilets in the Oasis cafe are not to be used (except for the cafe team).
Thank you for your co-operation with this.
